Our Summer Series: The Glory of the Church

Misconceptions about the Church abound. Many disagree on the calling of the Church in the world and the necessity of the Church in the lives of believers. Our summer sermon series will help us come to a better understanding of the glory of the Bride of Christ.

As we preach on the Body (topic 1), we are fighting against the mentality that the church is dispensable; people believe they can severe themselves from the body and remain connected to the head. As we preach on the Church Militant (topic 2), we are fighting against the view that the church is an escape from the world; this fortress mentality causes the church to forsake her calling to be salt and light in the world and quiets her prophetic voice. As we preach on the church as the Holy Temple (topic 3), we are fighting against the idea that the church should mimic the world; the worst parts of evangelicalism (and some of the better parts) have no doctrine of the church and, therefore, have no discipline, forsaking her call to purity. As we preach on the Church Triumphant, the church at rest in heaven (topic 4), we are fighting against the thought that the church has no glory now in this world; the church on earth should be an image of the church in heaven, filled with love and inspired, heart-felt worship.

Dr. Forney will inaugurate our thinking about the Church with a sermon the The Glory of the Bride during our May 16 morning services.
