    As you are probably aware, our mission trip is less than two months away. You might not be aware, however, that there is not yet a suitable design for our Deleware Mission Trip 2010 T-Shirt. This is why we are asking that you, the youth, participate in the "T-Shirt Design Contest." Please take some time to design a t-shirt by NEXT WEDNESDAY, JUNE 9 to Jonny Zellers or Hunter Turner. You may sketch your drawing either on a piece of paper, or on a computer file. There are a few rules which you must follow to participate: first, the t-shirt design must contain no more than 2 colors of ink. Second, you must specify what color the t-shirt itself will be. Third, there will only be a design on the front of the shirt. Fourth, you are required to be creative; your design can be serious or humorous, it can contain scripture verses, it can contain "Mission Trip 2010" or something along those lines, it can contain the names of our youth group and Pastor Gary's church (Eastgate Presbyterian), and it can contain basically whatever you can think of (within reason). The winning t-shirt design will be picked by a panel of "highly qualified" judges, and the winner will recieve a "substantial" prize. So pick up some paper and crayons, and get to work on those t-shirt designs.

Tim Speweik has an opportunity for your young men and women to raise funds, but this opportunity is only available during this Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. He has large roles of stickers that need to be put on sheets of paper from his MailWorks company. He thought it would take about an hour to go through a role and they will earn $7.00 per role. The work will take place at the Speweik’s home. If they have an hour or two or the whole day, this is a great opportunity to raise funds. Dear Parents of LWY Young Men and Women,

            We had a wonderful time on our 2010 Winter Retreat. Jake and Jody did an excellent job teaching the Word of God in a powerful, challenging and applicable way on our topic for this year, Leading Counter-Cultural Lives. The YoCo did a fantastic job with the Wacky Food and Survivor games. The YMCA Storer camp worked well, their food was good, and praise the Lord, we had plenty of snow.

This weekend could not have been possible without your godly and fun young men and women and the help and love of the Dionnes, Clarks, Speweiks, Foulkes, Baylys, Heyerlys and my wife.

            Thank you for your love and support. I am honored to be working with your young men and women and I am excited to see the work that God is doing in each one.

            As I am putting this Update together I’ve noticed a lot of snow coming down. There are two blessings with all this snow, though! One, we need snow to go tobogganing on our Winter Retreat this weekend. Two, lots of snow provides lots of snow shoveling opportunities for the youth which can help them earn funds for the mission trip and future Winter Retreats. Please pass this encouragement on to your young men and women to take advantage of this opportunity!

As we get ready to attend another great youth retreat there are a few details that need to be brought to your attention:

-Youth need to be at the church office by 5:15 p.m. on Friday, February 12 ready to be loaded into vans for the approximately 1 hour drive to the camp.

-The address of the camp is 6941 N. Stoney Lake Road, Jackson, MI  49201 and the phone number to get in touch with someone in an emergency is the camp director's, Nancy Burger's, work cell phone # 517-262-7705 - she has this with her all the time day/night.

-The youth will arrive home on Sunday at approximately 9:30 p.m. when they should be picked up at the church office.

-Due to popular demand, youth will have the opportunity to draw on and sign each other’s t-shirts if desired. If your youth would like to do this, they will need to bring a plain white t-shirt. We will provide plenty of fabric markers.

Dear Parents of LWY Young Men and Women,

2010 Mission Trip Update

To better assist you and to give you further information about the 2010 Mission Trip, the due date for both forms and monies has been changed to Wednesday, January 27, 2010.

A little over a week ago, Andrew and I had a very fruitful meeting with Gary Knap. Gary is the Sr. Pastor of Eastgate Presbyterian Church (EPC). This is the church that we will be working with on our 2010 Mission Trip. Our three main goals are to glorify God, share the Gospel and bless EPC’s members through physical acts of service. How do we plan to meet these goals? First, we plan to share the Gospel through the community wide ice cream social and concert, which will be held on Friday and promoted weeks prior, as well as the Sunday outreach service held on the beach. Secondly, there are multiple work projects that we plan to do such as clearing some wooded land behind the church (which will take up most of our work time), helping with some landscaping needs in the front of their church and helping with various projects that EPC’s elderly members have.

Gary has graciously opened up their church for us to stay and eat at. They have plenty of space to accommodate for our sleeping arrangements and a kitchen that will provide space for us to cook in. To meet our transportation needs for the week, we have rented a 56 passenger bus (including a professional driver who will be staying at a nearby hotel). The bus will also provide ample luggage space for all our needs. Below is a tentative schedule of the week. This schedule is subject to change as we speak further with Gary.

Starting in January, we will have a LWY Lunch-N-Fellowship on the 3rd Sunday of each month. If time permits, once the work is done we’ll play some outdoor games such as capture the flag or sardines. We’ll end at 9:00 p.m.

We encourage all parents of current and future Living Word Youth members to join us for a regular Wednesday night meeting on October 14 at 6:15 p.m. Following our regular worship, teaching and prayer time, we will have a short informational parent meeting while the youth are having snacks and playing games.

Stewardship Sunday School Classes Begin Aug. 30

Beginning, Sunday, August 30th as part of our To A Thousand Generations Campaign, we will begin our 4-week Sunday school lessons on biblical stewardship for children and adults. Andrew Dionne will teach the third adult section in the sanctuary which will include the senior high. Parents are encouraged to attend with their children, though this section is not limited to parents of high schoolers.

The LWY will be going to the Fulton County Fair plus we will have an exciting time watching the “famous” Combine Demolition Derby! The cost for tickets are $6 per person and for those who are 16 and older, there is an added $5 entrance fee. Sign up here! We must know by tomorrow if you plan on coming.

All LWY young men

A time of food, fun and fellowship at the Turner home (Hunter and Xinxin's Home that is.)

Why not? No...it is to gather together, encourage, challenge, and strengthen one another, to have fun...maybe some basketball in the back, extreme card games, or maybe even a football game in a field about 1 block away. Either way, we'll do things that everyone can do.
