November 23: Thank Offering Sunday
The deacons will be collecting our annual Thank Offering on November 23rd. As in the past, we are encouraging the children of Christ the Word to come up to the front of the sanctuary to express their thankfulness to God by bringing an offering. Also, this collection will be the last benevolence collection taken in 2008. We have combined the November and December benevolence in order to help those who will be in need during the holiday season. We are praying that God will bless this offering to teach our children about the importance of giving, and enable our church to do good works of charity. The deacons thank you for your cheerful giving in the past and for your generosity in this next collection.

Sign-Up To Serve
As we go to two services there is a greater need for volunteers to help serve. Please visit the table in the narthex where you can sign-up to serve in various areas of ministry. If you have not yet signed up you are encouraged to do so. Thank you!

Two Service Opportunities
As we move toward two services (November 9), we need to increase our volunteer staffing for many of our Sunday morning ministries. We’re asking you to consider where your family might serve, including following a model wherein you serve together during one service and worship together in another. Specific opportunities are listed below.
• Nursery: Our current nursery staff is mostly comprised of women, and we’d like to add a number of men to its number. In short, this is an opportunity for moms and dads. We’d especially commend this opportunity to you if you are one who places your children in the nursery. Any man or woman that is interested should indicate their willingness to help on the Connections Card or by speaking with Sara Shields.
• Children’s Church: Much like our nursery, the needs of Children’s Church staffing has doubled due to the additional service. Because of this we would again ask that interested men or women contact Erica Scharer or make note of their desire to help on our Connections Card.
• Refreshment Area: Our desire to maintain the same level of fellowship on Sunday mornings is being expressed through a variety of considerations, one of which is an expanded refreshment area in the Fellowship Hall. This will include bagels, coffee, tea and other seasonal treats. We need a few families or individuals to volunteer to help us maintain this area through out the morning. Please contact Mary Slick for more information.
