There is no shortage of opinions, suggestions, and expectations of what ‘manhood’ should look like today. However, God has not called men to strive in their own strength and wisdom to some picture of manhood which rests more on the opinions of others than on the Word of God. If the wisdom of men is substituted for the wisdom of the God, men will aim for a false image. This will end in false fruit, leaving men to constantly work on appearances and seeking after man’s praise. There is no comfort, hope, or joy to be found in pretending to attain to manhood.
There is strength in weakness, hope in confessing, and joy in admitting misery, for this leads men to desperately seek the grace God gives to the humble but withholds from the proud.
