A truth can walk unclothed…but a lie always must be dressed.
As a woman of the Word, you likely see the finely clothed and carefully spun lies of our modern day.
This time of year in particular, we are nearly commanded by the culture to join in taking pride in celebrating sexual sins which God’s word explicitly says are wrong.
We are told people aren’t responsible for heinous crimes, but rather circumstances and even objects are responsible instead.
We are led to believe a person is not a person until it is a wanted and planned-for person. This mantra permits the lives of babies to be snuffed out, often without even a sorrow or grief because–to those who believe the lie, it never constituted a life anyways.
Such lies are created and dressed by ones who vehemently deny God’s truth. But they are often perpetuated by others who follow and simply buy into the lies, unassumingly.
It’s as if the emperors with their imaginary clothes have gone on further to make glass houses for followers to dwell in too…spaces in which no one dares shatter the glass house with the truth or speak what is plain. As long as the narrative is followed, all is well.
Lies are propagated and upheld by carefully controlled words and constraining speech. Yet consider the power of the true word…
How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed?
And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard?
And how are they to hear without someone preaching?
And how are they to preach unless they are sent?
As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!”
But they have not all obeyed the gospel.
For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?”
So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
It is by the Word that lives are changed and saved through Jesus Christ. If the word can be silenced, then can the glass house continue to stand?
When a tragic school shooting happens again: rather than calling into question why our young men are so broken and aimless as to slay helpless children, we look solely to mechanisms. We dare not mention fatherlessness or aimless, idle lifestyles, nor the need for people to repent and be saved.
When abortion is shouted and paraded, abandoned is the fact that abstinence is 100% effective in eliminating unwanted pregnancies and that marriage between one man and one woman for life is God’s design for the human flourishing and family. And even an unplanned life has just as much value as the one that was wanted, because God is the ordainer of life.
Is this no longer true? Are we no longer permitted to speak such obvious truth?
When transactivists are grooming and convincing children at alarmingly effective rates to mutilate their own flesh in order to create the gender they wish to be, real facts are silenced. Statistics show such surgeries often do not produce the desired result. The continuing story for many grown, trans kids is that they regret these decisions later in life, but the damage is irreversible. These stories are not reported.
Furthermore, when authorities give away their authority, we are told the lies like no one is qualified to define what a woman is unless they’ve got a piece of paper labeling them a Biologist.
I could go on and on, sadly. And though it may seem like I am being sensational, I am not. I am simply describing what is happening in the public square. These are the times we are living in, Christian. You don’t need me to tell you the culture is polarized from God’s truth, truth which we find in the Bible.
It is tempting to maintain silence as a form of protest, but doesn’t our silence just reinforce the glass house? I am not sure we need to speak on every occasion, but each of us will face times when we are called to speak truth. So what happens if we simply speak the truth in love? I am challenging myself with this as well. I lack courage and am a little fearful to even hit send on this post. But to remain silent in the face of lies, can really be advocating the lies themselves. I aim to be an encouragement to believers.
The Truth Will Set You Free
The truth belongs to God. We need to learn and understand it, live by it, and defend it, in love.
It is not our truth. It is God’s truth and it is timeless and pure. Nothing can be added to it nor taken from it. It stands on its own, undressed and it will last for eternity.
“The words of the Lord are pure words,
like silver refined in a furnace on the ground,
purified seven times.
You, O Lord, will keep them;
you will guard us from this generation forever.
On every side the wicked prowl,
as vileness is exalted among the children of man.”
Rather than constraining and imprisoning people by lies in glass houses, God’s truth sets people free. He shatters the yoke of slavery and gives real freedom from shame, guilt, and sin and offers life abundantly both now and in the life to come. Oh, that we could share this good news with others and help them be set free!
“If you abide in my word,
you are truly my disciples,
and you will know the truth,
and the truth will set you free.”
